Yandex is the Russian favorite search engine covering 55.4 % of all local queries leaving Google on second place. It is widely used also in Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey. Succeeding in the Russian market as well as in CIS countries depends much on whether your website is optimized for Yandex. The majority of search queries in Russian are made via Yandex and not Google.ru, the first was especially designed to serve the local market. Yandex works as a digital portal where people start their day by checking the weather or their emails.

Compared to Google, the Russian search engine giant is far from technically inferior. Experts comment Yandex’s search algorithm detects spam better. Here are other Yandex’s features that differ from Google:

  • Yandex’s index recalculates static pages a few times a month and blog posts several times per day, whereas Google constantly crawls and indexes content.
