Google has Panda and Penguin. Seznam.cz has Jalapeno
Google’s competitor in Czech Republic Seznam.cz announced algorithm update which received the name Jalapeno 2.0. This is an addition to the original update, which was initially released in May last year. The idea behind Jalapeno is quite simple: provide the most relevant pages by getting rid of the web spam. Web spam generally refers to: content farms, page swapping and other black hat SEO tactics.
Jalapeno 2.0 brings a more accurate calculation of penalties for spam in the most popular search queries. It will take some time before new algorithm takes place so the results will be felt gradually over upcoming weeks. As for the future, Seznam.cz stressed that it is going to deploy penalties for keyword stuffing this year.
First version of the update was released in May 2015 the results became instantly evident. The amount of spam was reduced by 77%, which is clearly seen on the graph below.
Panda, Penguin & Jalapeno
Google first rolled out its algorithm updates several years ago and has been releasing new updates every year since then to lower the ranking of low-quality websites that were using link farms, spam link building and other tricks to improve rankings in SERP. Nevertheless, all of those algorithms have one purpose: give users exactly what they are looking for because it is the main factor why people use one search engine over another.
